Finding Flow in Your Season

In business, there’s a constant push and pull between what we think we should be doing and what our energy and circumstances allow us to do. Often, this creates friction that leaves us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or burned out. But what if the key to both success and joy lies in finding flow—working with your current season rather than fighting against it?

What Does Flow Look Like?

Flow isn’t about perfection or achieving some magical balance where everything feels easy all the time. Instead, it’s about:

  • Recognizing your current energy levels and capacity.

  • Aligning your actions with your priorities.

  • Letting go of unnecessary resistance—whether that’s the pressure to keep up with others or self-imposed expectations.

Finding flow starts with understanding the natural rhythms of your life and business. Are you in a season of growth, rest, creativity, or maintenance? Each one has its unique energy and demands, and honoring that season is the first step toward sustainable success.

The Misalignment Trap

One of the most common challenges I see in coaching clients is the mismatch between their energy and their goals. For example:

  • A client might be in a season of caregiving or personal upheaval but still expects to launch a high-energy, high-visibility marketing campaign.

  • Another might be riding the wave of inspiration but feels bogged down by rigid systems that don’t allow room for creativity.

When you’re out of alignment with your season, everything feels harder than it needs to be. Tasks take longer, motivation wanes, and self-doubt creeps in.

Aligning Your Energy with Your Goals

Here’s how to bring your business into flow with your current season:

  1. Identify Your Season: Take stock of both your business and personal life. Are you experiencing growth and expansion, or are you in a quieter period that calls for reflection and rest?

  2. Set Season-Specific Goals: Your goals should reflect your current capacity. If you’re in a high-energy phase, this might mean tackling big projects or scaling efforts. If you’re in a slower season, focus on foundational work, like nurturing client relationships or refining processes.

  3. Prioritize Your "Big 3": For any season, identifying three key priorities can help you maintain focus and momentum without feeling overwhelmed. Ask yourself:

    • What’s most urgent?

    • What will have the biggest impact?

    • What aligns with my values and long-term vision?

  4. Create Flexible Structures: Build systems that provide structure without being overly rigid. For example, use time-blocking to set aside focus periods, but leave room for creativity and spontaneity.

Practical Tips for Finding Your Flow

  1. Conduct a Weekly Energy Audit: At the end of each week, reflect on what activities felt energizing versus draining. Adjust your upcoming tasks to lean into your strengths and energy boosters.

  2. Use "Micro-Seasons": Even within a week or month, you’ll experience natural ebbs and flows. Plan your high-focus work during your most energetic times and reserve simpler tasks for lower-energy periods.

  3. Celebrate Small Wins: Progress isn’t always about massive leaps. Celebrate the steps you take, no matter how small, and trust that consistency will lead to results.

  4. Let Go of Comparison: Remember, no one else is living your exact life or running your exact business. Release the pressure to follow someone else’s timeline or strategy and focus on what feels right for you.

Final Thoughts

Finding flow isn’t about doing more or hustling harder. It’s about tuning into your unique rhythms and aligning your business actions with your current season. When you let go of the resistance and work with your energy instead of against it, everything feels lighter, more purposeful, and—most importantly—joyful.
