It’s a common trap I see new and business owners alike fall into! It comes with the territory of having big goals and being high achievers - but it’s also the thing that can hold you back. It’s that sneak all-or-nothing mindset! It’s the belief that you have to be all in on strategy or all in on flow, on hustle or rest, on doing or being. But the truth? Successful, sustainable businesses thrive in moving back and forth between the extremes.
Let’s break this down by exploring the two extremes I’ve observed in the entrepreneurial world.
The Hustle-Only Mindset
This is where many entrepreneurs begin. It’s all about action: strategizing, planning, executing, doing more. Hustle culture convinces you that if you just work harder, you’ll get there faster. And for some, this approach does yield results—until it doesn’t.
You hit burnout. You lose your joy. You start wondering why you ever started this business in the first place.
And on the flip side, there’s the other extreme.
The Only Mindset Work
This approach says: “Just lean back, let the universe deliver, and it’ll all flow your way.” There’s a place for this, too—visualizing success, aligning with your values, and trusting your intuition. But here’s the catch: If you’re sitting back waiting for magic to happen without taking action, you’re likely to just keep sitting there.
Manifestation is actually about taking ALIGNED action. It’s not one or the other; it’s both. The magic happens in the middle.
Recognizing the Season You’re In
Just like the seasons of the year, your business has seasons. You might be in a season of growth where hustle and strategy take center stage. Or you could be in a season of reflection, realignment, and creativity.
For new business owners, this often means focusing on the basics—building relationships, discovering your ideal client, and generating early revenue. For established business owners, it could mean shifting gears to scale, streamline, or step back and dream bigger.
The key is to ask yourself:
What season am I in right now?
What does my business need from me in this moment?
What do I need to sustain myself as a leader?
My Own Experience with Balancing Energies
Earlier this year, I hit a revenue milestone that felt… tight. Why? Because I was expanding—intentionally investing in my team and infrastructure. My profit margin shrunk temporarily, and I had to realign my energy toward scaling and growth.
I shifted from a season of messy exploration to a season of intentional, strategic action. Was it uncomfortable? Yes. But I knew my long-term vision required this temporary recalibration.
And now, as my team and systems hum along, I’m beginning to lean back into a creative, visionary season—dreaming up what’s next.

Practical Steps to Find Your Flow
So how do you navigate these shifts without falling into the all-or-nothing trap?
Get Clear on Your Why: Your “why” acts as your anchor, grounding you when you’re tempted to compare or overthink.
Assess Your Goals: Look at your short-term and long-term goals. Are you prioritizing what’s most important for this season of business?
Blend Strategy with Flow: Create a plan, but leave room for flexibility. Allow creativity to inform your actions, and let data guide your decisions.
Reflect and Adjust: Regularly check in with yourself. Are you veering too far into hustle mode or slipping into inaction? Pivot as needed.
Ask for Support: Whether it’s a mentor, coach, or community, find people who can help you see what you’re missing.
