In 2019 I decided to no longer use regular shampoo - and how this actually impacted my business.
If you’ve been around a while you know I was diagnosed in 2017 with PCOS after years of trying to get answers.
The diagnosis itself didn’t actually get me a ton of answers (read no one really understands the complexity of it) BUT it was a starting point for a new season of self discovery and prioritizing my health.
I learned what I needed to cut out to reduce my exposure to harmful chemicals that only exacerbated this hormonal disorder.
One of these was typical shampoos and hair treatments.
I couldn’t really settle on one.
Nothing seemed to work.
My hair would get too greasy.
Dandruff.
You name it.
I was getting close to giving up while I was using one shampoo bar in particular.
Everything I was reading online was the goal was to wash it less with the more all natural bars.
But I just couldn’t get there and it was driving me bonkers.
And then 2020 rolled around and we all remember what that was like…
So while stuck in the house I committed to just really try letting it do its thing.
There was a lot of messy buns and gross feeling hair.
I committed to only washing 1-2 times a week.
And JUST when I was about to break it was like a switch had flipped.
The greasyness was gone.
I could stretch it longer between washes and it looked and felt amazing.
Turns out, it just needed time to adapt.
To get rid of the build up from traditional shampoos and to let my scalp and hormones settle and do there thing.
I carry that lesson with me every single day in business.
Just because something doesn’t happen as quickly as we want.
The way we want.
Doesn’t mean it’s not working!
So many things in business take
TIME and consistent practice.
Building relationships.
Growing your audience.
Creating brand recognition.
Selling offers.
Marketing Providing transformations.
Return on investment.
Does it mean you dig your heels in never change anything? No. That extreme doesn’t work either. You gather data. You work the process. You give it time to do its thing. You adjust. It works.
